My first project at Meadors; the clients were longtime residents of Sullivan’s Island looking for a smaller place to enjoy their retirement. This marsh-front lot provided lots of opportunities for sweeping views framed by tranquil interiors.
With guidance from Meadors, the clients purchased a home originally built in 2001. They were looking to modernize the home while maintaining a island vibe.
We set the house apart from it’s neighbors by incorporating a darker exterior palette. Pre-dipped cedar shakes and a copper roof help to soften the facade.
The interior finishes had become dated and were completely removed.
We started with a clean, modernized slate and warmed it up with lots of textures and natural materials.
Two bay windows were replaced with full rooms that maximized the view. We used folding glass doors at the screened porch to bring the outside in.
The original master suite was totally transformed. This office became the new master bath.
We brought the outside in further by creating an indoor/outdoor master shower.
Originally, the front door opened onto the stair. The new owners wanted more of a foyer.
So we created a switchback stair and gave it a modern spin.
One of the selling points for the wife, a local artist, was ample second floor space for her studio.
We covered every wall with built-ins custom designed for her supplies. A skylight was added to bring more natural light into the space.
